for skipp, and foresight for the others.

the birth of something new always requires pain and sacrifice, whether it's a person, a personality, a life or a lifestyle. i always remember that now from a book called "this earth of mankind." clearly, this is the discomfort that we are experiencing now, trying to build our own life at the age of 21. i know it's difficult, BUT:

you don't need expensive coffee to start pursuing self-actualization. you don't need a car for that matter. you can adjust your physiological needs (and maybe even all the other needs in the hierarchy) to feel satisfied and fulfilled. but self-actualization, your standards for that shouldn't really be compromised. and efforts, as much as possible, shouldn't be delayed either.

you don't need to think about raising a family right now. as a 21-year-old-no-girlfriend-since-birth virgin, you are as far from family life as anyone else here (non-graduates, those would be you). harsh but true. and relieving. because in the span of 7 years, your life WILL change. your salary WILL get bigger. and you can buy ALL the on-sale nike shoes you want. and at that point, you'll hopefully feel that nike shoes just doesn't quite cut it for you, and that a family is what you want, and you will have the money for it. but at this point, don't put that unnecessary burden on you, thinking of families and shit like that. stay here now. because if you're focused on what you have today - a career - your work will pay off and enable you to pursue other things at a later time. like family. for now, stick to the nikes.

and honey, i don't blame you for not seeing us now. for not seeing us in the future. as your friend, i care that you make your dreams come true even if i'm not part of it. as long as you don't become evil of course, i don't mind if you change, even to the point where we don't get along as well as we used to. but i do hope that you will not just be satisfied with working and sleeping... that you'll build a life that has more than one thing to do. family (the one you have now, that is), friends (even if it's not us, though we still hope for it). don't fall out of the circuit, skipp, if you can. it's so easy to just let go, but then where's your pride if you just make a zombie out of yourself?

the fact that you know there is a coincidental tide means that you can fight it. and if you can fight it, then you can choose your destiny. and we will all roadtrip with our families when we're 40.
